A figure of a British officer of the Scottish Black Watch regiment of the First World War in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Black Watch is a Scottish Highland regiment of the British army with a long tradition; its name is tied to the dark checked cloth by which it was told apart from other units. The Scottish regiments went into the First World War with equipment that differed markedly from the rest of the British army, and their appearance survived into trench warfare. The figure represents a second lieutenant, that is the lowest officer rank, in which young platoon commanders went to the front.
This is a single figure in 1:35 scale, that is in the same scale in which vehicles and guns of the First and Second World Wars are built. A standing figure comes out at about five centimeters in it. It comes into its own as an accompaniment to a vehicle, as a figure for a diorama of trench warfare or as a piece of work in its own right on a display base.
Before painting, wash the figure in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry; paint holds badly on a greasy surface. Cut the surplus material and the traces of production away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off gently. Apply the paint in thin coats and start with the face, because that decides the final impression. The checked pattern of Scottish units is painted by laying thin lines over the base shade in one direction first and only in the other once they have dried. To stick it to a base use a glue suitable for the material in question.
For modelers who build scenes from the First World War and want a figure in them with a clearly stated allegiance. Paints, glue and a display base are not included in the box, unless stated otherwise.
