The coarsest step of the basic torx line; the head measures 1.2 mm. A borderline size between fine detail and fasteners for large scales.
Responsibility details are not available.
1.2 mm is a notional boundary. Below it lie the sizes meant for detailing models in 1:12 and smaller; above it begins the range for large scales, where screws are already counted in whole millimeters. That is exactly why this step turns up in two roles at once: as the largest piece on a compact model and at the same time as the smallest piece on a huge one.
Worked out to 1:12 it stands for a real head of 14.4 mm. Screws like that do not occur everywhere on a motorcycle – you will find them on the mounting of the swingarm, on the lower anchoring of a shock absorber or on the seat bracket. To use twenty of them on one machine would rather spoil the realism.
A tried procedure is to set three to five pieces of the largest size into the key points and to step the rest of the model down from there. The eye then reads the skeleton of the machine by itself, without anyone having to prompt it.
Reaching for the largest size everywhere is the most common mistake of beginning detailers. A real machine has its fasteners stepped, and a model that imitates that looks more credible than one with uniform heads.
