A screw with a star drive, size 1.1 mm

A small imitation of fasteners for models. In its face the head has a six-point star recess, that is the drive designated torx, and it is meant to be glued onto a finished surface. The size given in the name is 1.1 mm, which within this line is one of the larger sizes.

When to reach for a larger size

Fasteners do not come in one size on a real machine: the screws in the frame and in the mounting of the swingarm are distinctly heftier than those holding the small covers or the cabling. It is exactly this difference that makes a model credible, and that is why it pays to have the neighboring sizes at hand and to fit them according to the load on the given joint, rather than all the same. The 1.1 mm size is clearly noticeable on a model and will stand a close look.

Installation tips

• Before you glue the element, lay it on dry and compare it with its surroundings; a difference of a tenth of a millimeter tells from close by.
• Pick the elements up with fine-jawed tweezers and work over a pad with a raised rim.
• Fit them only after the seams have been sanded and the base coat sprayed, otherwise you will sand the detail away or flood it with paint.
• Check which glue to attach the elements with in the manufacturer's instructions and apply it in a small amount only.

For the modeler who is fine-tuning the visible joints on a machine with exposed mechanics. This is an accessory for a kit, not a kit in itself. A model, paints and glue are not supplied, unless stated otherwise.
