A fastening part with a low head, 0.7 mm in diameter. A replacement for a painted dot, which never casts a shadow.
Responsibility details are not available.
A widespread habit is to suggest the joints on a model with a thin brush alone. Close up that always fails, because a spot of paint lies in the plane of the surface and has nothing to cast. Yet the eye does not read shape, it reads exactly the shadow under an edge. A fitted metal part forms a shadow by itself and it changes with every turn of the model, which is a difference not even the best painting will fix.
This step tends to be a compromise between visibility and restraint. You will use it where a taller head already draws attention to itself but a lower one would be lost: the mounting of cable clamps, the joints on plastic covers, the fastening of footpegs on lighter machines. A lowered profile means the joint stays legible but does not disturb the line of the part.
Count on a reserve. Some of the pieces get lost when working with tweezers, and looking for a small metal part on the floor is a lost cause from the outset. Experienced builders take roughly a quarter more than they have places counted, and keep the rest with the work in progress.
The metal pieces have a uniform shape throughout the package, so neighboring joints on a model will not differ from one another.
Leave the final check for the next day. Freshly fitted places are judged indulgently by everyone; after a break you will find pieces seated crooked straight away and still have time to replace them.
