A hex head of medium height complemented by a large washer, dimensional designation 1.1 mm. A metal fastener for the detailed building of motorcycle models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation semi light hex describes a hex head that is neither low nor full, lying between the two. Beneath it sits a large washer, so the joint visually grows on the model and looks sturdier than the head alone would call for. The stated dimension of 1.1 mm belongs to the upper end of the scale offered.
Eleven tenths of a millimeter is a size for places where a structural joint meets a visible surface on the real machine: the mounting of the engine into the frame, clutch covers, footpeg feet. Finer grades are lost in such a position; coarser ones begin to look overgrown next to the neighboring parts.
Dividing in steps of one tenth of a millimeter is no whim. Converted into the scale of the kit, the step between 1.1 and 1.2 corresponds to roughly two millimeters on a real motorcycle, and that is the difference between an M10 and an M12 bolt. It therefore pays to choose by the subject, not by what is left in the drawer. A proven approach: on a photograph of the machine find the ratio of the head to something known, for instance the diameter of a brake disc or the width of a chain link, and only then reach into the scale.
The part is inserted into a pre-drilled hole and fixed with thin cyanoacrylate glue. Drill rather tighter and widen the hole gradually; metal forgives a mistake less readily than a plastic molding. Before gluing it is useful to degrease the surface, so that the joint holds even after varnishing.
