Imitation bolts with a hex head and a slot for a flat screwdriver in the 0.8 to 1.2 mm size range. The minus designation in the name points precisely to that straight groove in the face of the head.
A head that can be tightened with a wrench as well as a screwdriver belongs to joints where maintenance in place is expected: to caps, covers, brackets and small flanges. On a model it is recognized at once, because the straight groove catches a shadow and divides the face of the head into two halves. An injection mold cannot hold this detail; what is left of it is a smooth circle that blends into its surroundings once the paint is sprayed.
The 0.8 to 1.2 mm range allows the joints to be graded according to the subject, so the frame and load-bearing brackets get heavier heads than small covers. Choose the size by comparison with the surrounding shapes on the part, not by the scale of the kit. When installing, the rotation of the slots is worth attention: on a real machine they do not all point the same way, so a regular alignment to one axis looks contrived on a model. Turn each of them a little differently, therefore.
Sand the surface flat and drill a shallow recess for the exact position. Carry the part with tweezers and fix it with a minute drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a wire at the place of installation. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the slot stays readable; a dark coat that can be wiped off the surrounding surface will bring it out. The model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
