Foam abrasive pads in grade 8000, two pieces in the package. The second-to-last grade of the range, suitable for canopies, clear parts and gloss surfaces.
Responsibility details are not available.
A grade of eight thousand belongs among the steps after which a surface no longer looks sanded but silky. The groove such an abrasive leaves is practically invisible to the naked eye, and that is exactly why this grade is used just before polishing compound or before a gloss varnish is applied.
Aircraft builders reach for it most often on clear parts. A scratch on a canopy, a mark from the mold or a flat edge left after cutting it from the sprue disappear in exactly this band of grades, without the surface going wavy. It serves just as well on the hoods of car models, where every mark from a coarser step will later show up under the paint.
The foam body is yielding, so it takes the shape of the surface it lies on. On a sharp edge, therefore, work with care - a soft carrier can round it off faster than you expect. Between strokes rinse and wipe the surface, otherwise a tiny sanded-off particle will catch in the abrasive and put a single long groove into the finished surface, which you then have to remove with a coarser grade.
In the package you will find two pieces. In the brand's six-grade range this is the second-to-last grade; above it stands only the twelve-thousand one.
Before this grade comes to a part, the surface should be free of all visible marks of coarser work. It pays to look at it against a sharp point light at a shallow angle - what is visible now will be visible under the paint too. Only then does the finest abrasive make sense and the time spent on it pay off.
On small surfaces you can work dry; on large ones it is worth wetting the surface.
