The range of cone rivets from this brand starts at three tenths of a millimeter and this item closes it at 1.6 mm. In the bag there are 81 pieces. The head has a conical, slightly chamfered outline of the kind carried by the massive joints of armor plate and by ship fittings. For seating it a hole 1.0 mm across is drilled, so the rivet holds on a pin and does not rely on the area of glue alone.
The conversion turns the figure into a vivid idea: in 1:35 the head comes out at almost 5.6 cm, in 1:16 at roughly 2.6 cm and in 1:9 at not quite one and a half centimeters. On an ordinary aircraft in 1:48 it would therefore look coarse, whereas on heavy ground hardware, on the fittings of bridging sets, on industrial structures for dioramas and in the large scales it sits exactly right. Against the neighboring 1.4 mm size the difference shows mainly in how pronounced a shadow the head casts once sprayed.
This size is pleasant in that it can be taken in the fingers and will not disappear into the carpet. Drill the hole square with a hand drill, clean the edge up and fix the rivet with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a toothpick. Before you start painting, let the joint cure completely, because a conical head likes to turn under the pressure of a brush.
