Fujimi Chibi-Maru Taiho is a fun shortened kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Taiho from the Chibi-Maru line — a caricature little ship with no scale that can be built in a single evening.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Chibi-Maru line of the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi turns famous Japanese warships into cute shortened caricatures — and the aircraft carrier Taiho is one of its most striking pieces. The short, chubby hull with a flight deck that still looks the part makes the model a rewarding decoration. This is not a scale model: the line has no uniform scale and is designed for a simple, quick build.
Taiho was one of the most modern Japanese aircraft carriers of the Second World War and the first Japanese carrier with an armored flight deck, which was meant to let the ship survive hits from aerial bombs. She entered service in the spring of 1944. Her career was very short, however — in June 1944, during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, she was hit by a torpedo from an American submarine and a few hours later she was destroyed by an explosion of accumulated fuel vapor.
The build calls for only basic equipment — a modeling knife, cement for plastic and a couple of brushes. Paint the flight deck in a darker shade and let its markings stand out, and leave the hull in naval gray. Bond the small superstructure parts with tweezers. The model needs no filling and no complicated masking, which makes it ideal as a first encounter with ship modeling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
