Wood for the deck, masking and photo-etched elements for the shrunken Japanese ship Yamashiro. The base model comes from the scaleless Chibimaru series. The cutouts correspond to the deck areas of the Fujimi 422206 kit.

The set completes a shrunken caricature kit of the Japanese battleship Yamashiro. It contains wooden covering, masking including a mask for the planks, and photo-etched components, so even a small model gets a surface of the kind otherwise seen rather in large scales and demanding display case pieces. The pagoda superstructure and the articulated decks give this ship an interesting silhouette even in a shrunken form. The cutouts follow the deck areas of the Fujimi 422206 kit; a different edition of the same ship has the decks divided up differently.
Yamashiro was the second unit of the Fuso class and entered service during the First World War. Between the wars she went through a rebuilding in which her characteristic tall pagoda superstructure grew. On October 25, 1944 she perished in the Surigao Strait, where American battleships shot her to pieces in a night battle. It was one of the last duels of armored colossi in history. Her main armament consisted of twelve guns of 356 millimeters in six turrets.
The model is built simply, so the main work lies in the cleanliness of the surface. Lay the wood on completely dry paint, finish the pagoda superstructure separately and fit it only at the end. Fine photo-etched railings hold best when you first attach them at the corners and only then take up the rest. The tone of the wood comes across better when you choose a cooler gray for the hull to go with it.
