A white styrene sheet of 15 x 30 cm with engraved paving of a 4.7 mm square. A base for sidewalks, courtyards and station platforms on dioramas and on a model railroad.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sheet of white polystyrene carries on its face a regular grid engraved across the whole 15 x 30 cm format, so that the surface is made up of continuous squares with a 4.7 mm side and with no repeating mold imprint. Converted to the usual model sizes, one square corresponds to roughly 41 cm in railroad HO 1:87, about 23 cm in 1:48 and some 16 cm in 1:35. It therefore suits finer paving, terraces and station platforms rather than rough stone setts.
The material is divided with a snap-off blade knife - run the blade along a ruler several times and break the sheet over the edge of the table. The engraved joints lead the blade along the line, so that the junction of two pieces stays inconspicuous. Cutouts around hatches, curbs or the footings of posts can be managed with a needle file and sandpaper of around 400 grit. The joints are held by liquid cement for styrene, which softens both parts and welds them together.
The surface takes acrylic as well as synthetic shades; it only pays to lay a thin base coat first, so that the final color sits evenly. The grooves will then stand out under a dark wash, which capillary action draws into the joints by itself; the excess is wiped off with a cotton swab. A uniform area is broken up by lighter dotting of the individual slabs and by a hint of dust from a dry pastel along the edges. Hide the visible cut on the side under a thin strip of smooth plastic, which will serve as a curb at the same time.
The unit of sale is one piece.
