Paint Forge Circle Stencils L — a universal masking stencil

Circle Stencils is a universal stencil with circular cutouts — a sheet through which paint is applied to an already painted surface. It is not a mask cut for a particular kit but a reusable aid. The circle is the most universal shape a modeler needs: circular insignia and national markings, hatches and tank lids, roundels on training hardware, the lenses of lights, instrument dials or regular dots on science-fiction panels.

The letter L in the name marks the larger of the pair of sheets that Paint Forge offers for the same pattern; the smaller sheet carries the letter M in its name. You will appreciate the larger format on extensive areas — on the sides of hardware, on wings or on the base of a diorama, where with a small sheet you have to reposition it.

How the stencil is used

• Let the base coat dry out completely, otherwise the sheet will leave an imprint in it.
• Press the stencil down over the whole area around the cutout — with a circle every gap shows up as overspray around the perimeter.
• Lead the airbrush perpendicular and apply several very thin coats; an angled pass blows paint under the edge and the circle loses its sharp edge.
• With a brush, stipple the paint into the cutout almost dry, do not stroke it.
• Lift the sheet off while the paint is damp and clean it at once.
