A concrete shade of liquid stain for culverts, retaining walls and slab roads. It is thinned with water and behaves as a glaze. A 118 ml bottle.

Concrete on a model seldom looks like concrete. White tends to be too clean, ordinary gray too cold, and only a tone with a touch of buff gives a culvert, a retaining wall or a slab road the look of a structure that stands in the open air and has several winters behind it.
Thinned stain behaves as a glaze. It runs into the joints between slabs, to the curbs and into the fine texture left by formwork, where it stays darker, while it leaves the raised areas lighter. In a single stroke a pattern thereby arises that an opaque coat would, on the contrary, flood and level into one uniform area.
The binder is water based and a dried layer can be washed off again, so the intensity is built up carefully and any overdoing is removed. The base can be a plaster casting, plaster cloth, wood or a foam compound. The bottle takes 118 milliliters, that is 4 fluid ounces, which for an ordinary diorama lasts a very long time.
The best result comes from going from the thinnest mixture to a thicker one. The base is always left to dry out, because damp plaster pulls the tone elsewhere and the finished area then looks blotchy. On a perfectly smooth wall with no texture, on the other hand, a classic opaque coat is more suitable, because a glaze has nowhere to stay hanging on it.
