Daemon Earth is a texture from the Wargame Terrains range by AK interactive, and according to the name the package holds 100 ml. The compound is applied with a spatula or a card straight onto a base or onto the surface of a scene and once dry it keeps the relief shaped into it.
Texture as the binder of a scene
This compound is at its strongest the moment you take it as a joining material. While the layer is still pliable, small stones, pieces of bark, dry twigs, grit, pieces of castings or static grass can be pressed into it. The materials sink into the relief and once dry they hold in place with no further securing. A base then gets a depth that cannot be reached with paint alone. It is worth planning in advance where the figure will go, so that no small stones get under its feet and it stands firm.
It is a choice for modelers who like combining materials and do not want to fish every small stone out with tweezers and seat it separately. For players it is interesting for the speed with which a whole group of figures can be fitted out. A more experienced diorama builder will value it as a base that bears further layers and accessories.
