A dark gray carried under the name Dark Grey from the Orange Line range by Hataka. The number in the name refers to the American standard color reference Federal Standard, where the first digit sets the gloss: a three at the start means a flat finish. Dark grays of this range belong to postwar and present-day military aircraft, where they replaced the colorful camouflage schemes; they are useful on equipment, on landing gear parts and anywhere a black would look too hard.
Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, settled pigment otherwise changes both the tone and the coverage. The thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging; clean brushes and the airbrush according to the same instruction. Apply in thin coats and let each one flash off before the next arrives. A single heavy coat floods the engraving and wipes out raised detail. Wash and degrease the surface beforehand, on greasy plastic the coat does not hold.
A flat surface goes badly with decals; those need a smooth gloss substrate, otherwise dull edges appear underneath them. So work in the usual order: paint, gloss clear coat, decals and only at the end a flat clear coat over the top. Try the shade on a piece of scrap plastic as well, because every gray reads differently on a small area and under different lighting. Close the bottle carefully after work and store it in the dry, away from frost and direct sun.
Thinner, brushes, clear coats and airbrushes are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
