The SIAI-Marchetti SF-260 is an Italian light aircraft with a piston engine and a propeller, of all-metal construction and with retractable landing gear. It made its name mainly as a trainer: it responds crisply to the controls, takes aerobatic loads and served to train pilots who then moved on to more powerful equipment. Besides the purely training machines, variants were also built with underwing pylons for light combat and reconnaissance duties. The type flew in the colors of many air arms and a number of examples remain in service to this day.
The publication will be appreciated by a modeler looking for references on the shapes of the SF-260, on the cockpit equipment, on the division of the surfaces and on the finishes. It is also useful to a collector of literature on postwar Italian aviation and to a reader interested in training aircraft as a subject.
Before you start building, go through the differences between the individual versions. On the SF-260 the equipment, the armament and small details on the fuselage change according to the operator, so compare the reference with what the kit offers and settle any discrepancies before you close the fuselage. Once the halves are glued together you can no longer get into the cockpit. Look at the color references in daylight, as artificial lighting shifts the shades. Put the publication aside, out of reach of glues, paints and thinners while you work; paper is sensitive to them.
