Douglas DC-2 is a specialist publication from the 4+ series by Mark I, devoted to the American twin-engine airliner of the first half of the 1930s. It is a book, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The suffix 4+ in the name is the designation of the imprint of the Mark I publishing house, not a scale and not a truncated figure. The imprint devotes itself to monographs of individual aircraft types, and this volume belongs to a machine that stands at the beginning of modern air transport. The product is a printed publication, no model and no modeling accessory.
The Douglas DC-2 was an American twin-engine all-metal airliner that first flew in 1934. It followed on from the DC-1 prototype and was the direct predecessor of the more famous DC-3. It combined elements that were only then coming in, that is a cantilever metal structure, retractable landing gear, flaps and radial engines with cowlings that reduced drag. The passenger cabin took on the order of ten to fifteen passengers, and on the airlines the machine brought a combination of speed and reliability that earlier types did not offer. It is also known for having made a strong showing in the long-distance race from England to Australia in 1934, where the machine of a Dutch company flew the ordinary scheduled route with passengers and mail and still finished in a leading position. Besides civil service, military transport variants also came about and a number of machines flew in Europe.
For anyone interested in the history of civil aviation, for modelers of airliners who lack good pictorial background, and for collectors of aviation literature.
