A single scriber blade 0.15 mm wide from the tungsten steel range of the Taiwanese brand Madworks. The box gives tungsten steel, that is a material that holds an edge markedly longer than ordinary tool steel but takes less bending, so it is worked without levering it sideways. The tang is 3 mm in diameter, which is the size the manufacturer builds its handles around. The 0.15 mm is a fine line: it suits places where a 0.2 mm would come across as coarse, and a paneliner will still stay in the groove. The package holds the blade alone, with the handle bought separately.
For modelers who scribe regularly and want a blade that stays sharp for a long time. Tungsten steel is harder but also more brittle than the flexible blades: guide it only along the axis of the stroke and do not lever it to the side. As a first scriber a more flexible type is therefore better suited; this is a tool for a steadier hand.
Hold the blade upright with the bevel upward and pull it toward you with a light stroke, deepening the groove over several passes. Excessive pressure will damage the tip. The manufacturer gives plastic (ABS and PVC), resin and epoxy as the intended materials and warns expressly that the tool must not be used on metal. The metal part is protected against corrosion, but store the tool dry all the same. The tip is sharp, so keep it out of the reach of children.
