The small scale gives a model of a manageable size, which displays well even in a smaller case, and at the same time it captures the typical silhouette of the ship. The kit belongs to the classic Airfix range; it holds the parts of the hull, the superstructure, the gun turrets, the armament and decals for a period finish. The model is unassembled and unpainted.
HMS Nelson was a British battleship completed in 1927, named after Admiral Nelson. Its unmistakable look is set by the trio of gun turrets with the main 16-inch (406 mm) guns, gathered unusually all ahead of the bridge superstructure, a solution that was meant to save the weight of armor. The Nelson served during the Second World War in the Atlantic and in the Mediterranean and was present at a number of key operations right up to the end of the war in the Pacific.
You will glue the hull in this scale with cement for plastic; smooth the seam between the halves of the hull with putty and sanding. Paint the decks and the small armament separately before the final assembly. Realism is added by fitting photo-etched railings and radar antennas (they are not included in the package) and by fine accenting of the panels with a dark wash. A finished model stands out effectively on a stand or a display base; when showing it afloat, the base can be rendered as a sea surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
