This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:144 scale from the Japanese brand Aoshima captures the US-2 search and rescue flying boat of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. This anniversary edition marks twenty years since the prototype's first flight and offers collector's extras beyond the model itself. The package holds an embroidered patch with the anniversary logo, a display base and a water-slide decal with the anniversary marking. The model can be built in three versions and with the landing gear and flaps either extended or retracted.
The US-2 is a modern Japanese search and rescue flying boat with outstanding takeoff and landing qualities on water. It serves for search and rescue work at sea, including far from the coast; it follows the earlier US-1A and is marked out by powerful turboprop engines and the ability to land even on a rough sea.
Glue the plastic parts with modeling cement for plastic, sand the joints and spray the surface with primer. An airbrush makes the smooth color areas of the large fuselage easier; apply the decals onto a gloss base. Consider whether you will build the model with the landing gear extended on the base, or in its configuration on the water.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
