This is an injection-molded plastic kit in 1:144 scale released as a Starter kit. This version captures the Mohawk with the characteristic long pod of the side-looking airborne radar (SLAR) on the fuselage. The package holds plastic parts for one aircraft including a clear sprue, small photo-etched parts and a decal sheet. The small scale makes the build a quick and rewarding project for a collection.
The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was an American twin-engine turboprop aircraft for battlefield observation and reconnaissance, with high-set wings, a triple tail and a well-glazed nose. The OV-1B version was fitted with the SLAR side-looking radar, whose antenna sat in a conspicuous long pod alongside the fuselage, which makes it a visually striking variant.
Clean the radar pod and the fuselage transitions carefully and fill them if need be. Glue the clear parts with cement for glazing and mask them. In a small scale choose thin coats of paint so that the engraving stays legible; apply the decals over a gloss surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
