1:16 German tanker in winter dress with Tiger I Early cupola is a resin figure of a German tank crewman in winter dress, complemented by a section of the drum-type commander's cupola of the early series of the Tiger heavy tank.
Responsibility details are not available.
A crewman leaning out of a hatch is among the most rewarding subjects that can be shown on heavy equipment. The Italian brand Royal Model has cast him in 1:16 scale in polyurethane resin and added a section of the commander's cupola, so that a finished vignette comes out even without the whole vehicle. A figure in this size reaches around 120 mm, which gives scope for sculptural modeling of the face and of the folds of the clothing.
The first series of Tiger heavy tanks were given a drum-type cupola with narrow vision slits covered by armored glass, taken over from the Panzer III medium tanks. The crews did not find it satisfactory: the vision slits were vulnerable and the low-set collar of the cupola gave gunners a convenient target. From roughly the middle of 1943 it was replaced by a cast cupola with periscopes around its circumference and with a ring for an antiaircraft machine gun. The drum variant therefore dates a vehicle unambiguously to early production, that is, to the fighting at Kharkov and on the Kursk salient.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the remains of mold release agent from the mold disappear, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces. Cyanoacrylate glue holds the joints, and a filler primer in a spray can suits the base. The winter dress was reversible, so the white side can take heavy soiling and even the gray-green reverse cloth showing through.
The castings come unassembled and without paint, and putty and brushes have to be obtained separately.
