An injection-molded plastic kit of an ocean-going rescue and salvage tug whose parts can be built as either of the sister vessels Smit Rotterdam or Smit London. The model from the maker Heller is a classic ship kit with a richly broken-down deck; the assembled hull measures around 38 cm. It is supplied to be glued and painted.
Smit Rotterdam and Smit London were sister deep-sea tugs built in the mid-1970s in the Netherlands. In their day they were among the most powerful tugs in the world and were designed to tow heavy loads such as drilling rigs over long distances and in any weather, and to assist ships in distress anywhere on the oceans.
Decide whether to build the full hull or a waterline version. Finish the deck, the superstructure and the cranes first, and only then fit the fine parts such as the railings, masts, boats and anchor chain. Paint subassembly by subassembly, so that you can reach into the corners. A stand or a cradle is recommended for firm display; final washes will accentuate the deck detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
