An injection-molded plastic kit of the famous American aircraft carrier USS Yorktown CV-5 in the large 1:200 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. It is a sizeable model for demanding builders, the finished length exceeding 124 cm. According to the manufacturer the package contains more than a thousand parts, photo-etched sheet, a metal anchor chain and decals. You thus have a solid base for a representative model of a key ship of the battle of Midway.
USS Yorktown CV-5 was an American aircraft carrier, the lead ship of the class of the same name. She played a fundamental role in the first months of the war in the Pacific, among other actions in the battle of the Coral Sea and in the decisive battle of Midway in June 1942. At Midway she was heavily damaged by Japanese aircraft and was finally sunk by a torpedo from a Japanese submarine. She ranks among the best known American aircraft carriers of the Second World War.
Given the size, plan the build in large subassemblies. Decide in advance between the full hull and the waterline version. Use a thin cement on the plastic and glue the photo-etched and metal parts with cyanoacrylate. Finish and paint the flight deck and the hangar deck before the final assembly; attach the fine railings and aerials at the end. Apply a primer and spray the paints with an airbrush; weathering of the wooden flight deck along with traces of use is effective. We recommend displaying the model on a firm stand.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
