Where printing on paper ends and sculpture begins

The sharp version of the 911 designated GT3 RS from the 992 generation was introduced in 2022 as a road car derived from the circuit one. Inside, that means bucket seats, a roll cage behind them, multi-point belts and a steering wheel studded with controls with which the driver changes the chassis and aerodynamic settings on the move.

This set combines two technologies. The flat and shallow things, meaning display graphics, lettering, the texture of the Alcantara, the door panels and the upholstery, come printed in color on a decal carrier. The things that have real volume and cannot be made with a paper piece come as separate parts printed in resin. The dividing line therefore does not follow the size of the part but whether the shape can be pressed flat.

For the build that means a twofold procedure. The resin parts are cut from the supports, bonded with cyanoacrylate or acrylic glue and completed with paint; the printed pieces are dipped, transferred and settled onto a gloss coat, and a softener does not belong on them. It pays to reverse the usual order: the flat areas first, then the three-dimensional elements, so that a wet brush is not pressed into them.

The digital instruments and the center screen on this subject carry a great deal of fine graphics that a brush could not capture in 1:24 scale. Printing manages it, pictograms included, but it has one condition: the surface must be smooth and degreased, otherwise a matte veil will show through the thin layer. A plastic model of the car is not included in the delivery; the set forms its equipment.
