About product

Albatros W.4 1:32 - a resin kit from Lukgraph

A large-format model of the German float fighter biplane of the First World War from the Polish manufacturer Lukgraph. This is not classic injection-molded plastic; it is a resin (3D printed) kit intended for experienced modelers. The 1:32 scale means a large, representative model with rich detail in the parts. The main struts and the float mounts are in this line usually reinforced in their structure with metal wire, which helps the stability of the build.

The real subject

The Albatros W.4 was a single-seat float fighter biplane derived from the land fighters Albatros D.I and D.II. Imperial German naval aviation operated it from roughly 1916 for the defense of coastal bases and harbors. It was powered by an inline water-cooled Mercedes engine, the fuselage was of wooden construction with a plywood skin and the flying surfaces were covered with fabric. It was a typical representative of the early seaplane fighter, with its characteristic large floats.

Building and painting tips

First wash the resin parts free of print resin residue, cut the print supports off carefully and glue with cyanoacrylate glue; protect your airways while sanding. A biplane means rigging between the wings and down to the floats; reckon with patient work and we recommend preparing rigging line and fine drills. The surface combines wood, fabric and metal; for a convincing look wood shades, fabric covering colors and fine washes into the recesses all serve well. An airbrush and a good primer will improve the result considerably.

Who the model is for

  • Experienced modelers with experience of resin and of rigging
  • Collectors of First World War aircraft and of seaplanes
  • Lovers of the large 1:32 format with the maximum of detail
  • Modelers looking for an unusual subject outside ordinary production

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a kit in resin. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is a resin (3D printed) kit, not injection-molded plastic. The parts are glued with cyanoacrylate and the build is more demanding; we recommend it to experienced modelers.

Thin lines are stretched between the wings and down to the floats, which stiffened the structure. In 1:32 it is a prominent and patient part of the build.

For advanced modelers and collectors of First World War aircraft who will appreciate the large format, the fine detail and the unusual subject of a float fighter.
