A set of air intakes for a model of the F-14A aircraft in 1:32 scale, intended for the kit from Trumpeter. The parts are made by 3D printing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14 is an American carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing, operated from the decks of aircraft carriers. Its angular air intakes with movable ramps are among the most striking features of the fuselage, and on a model you can see deep inside them. That is exactly the area this set deals with on the F-14A version.
These are replacement air intakes made by 3D printing. The printed parts have no casting blocks and no mold release agent; they are held by print supports, which you remove before building. The set is built for the kit from Trumpeter in 1:32 scale and replaces the parts from the box rather than merely complementing them.
Cut the supports off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest carefully, so that you do not damage the edge. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and degrease them, so that no print resin residue is left on the surface and the paint holds. The material is not polystyrene, so it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue rather than ordinary modeling cement for plastic. Paint the inside of the intakes and clean up the seams before you glue the assembly into the fuselage, because afterwards you cannot get inside.
The set is meant for modelers who want to replace the most visible part of the forward area with a crisper shape in a large scale. The build calls for a little confidence with sanding and with cyanoacrylate glue. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
