A set of wheels for the Lockheed F-104C Starfighter model in 1:32 scale. It replaces the wheels from the plastic kit with separately manufactured parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a supersonic fighter aircraft with a strikingly slender fuselage and short, thin wings. The F-104C version served with the US Air Force. On this type the wheels are clearly visible on the finished model: the landing gear is slim and nothing else under the fuselage draws the eye, so the shape of the tire and of the hub matters a great deal. In 1:32 scale these are moreover parts that the viewer studies from close up.
The set replaces the wheels from the plastic kit. The parts are not made of polystyrene, so ordinary modeling cement for plastic does not work on them; they are attached with cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remainder so that the contact patch is preserved. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold. The exact procedure for preparing the parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Dry-fit the wheels in the landing gear legs before you glue anything; any play can be adjusted by opening the hole up with a drill or by packing it out. The hub and the tire are easiest to spray in stages: first the whole wheel in the tire shade, then mask the hub with a circular mask or brush it over. A thin dark glaze in the grooves of the tread gives the tire a depth that a flat shade cannot.
The set is for builders who want to replace the wheels of an F-104C model in 1:32 scale with separately manufactured parts, or to replace a damaged or missing wheel. The package contains only the wheel parts, unless stated otherwise; the model, paints and glue are not included.
