A set of wheels in cast resin in 1:32 scale from the manufacturer Reskit, intended for a model of the carrier-based attack aircraft Vought A-7 Corsair II in the A-7A, A-7B, A-7C and A-7E versions. It is not an aircraft kit but a replacement part with which the landing gear wheels from the box are exchanged on a model. The set is designed for one specific kit, which the name states, so check before you buy that it corresponds to the model you are building.
A wheel is one of the few places on a model that stands directly at the viewer's eye level. An injection-molded part is pressed from two halves, so a parting seam runs across the tread that cannot be sanded away without damaging the pattern. The shape is moreover perfectly round, as though the tire carried no load. A resin casting is poured in one piece, the tread and the lettering on the sidewalls stay sharp and the profile tends to be treated as loaded, that is, with a slightly settled contact patch. The model then stands on its base not at a point but on a surface, which looks heavier and more credible at first glance.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry, otherwise paint will not hold on them. On wheels the casting block tends to run along the contact surface; cut it off with a saw and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on glass, so that the wheel stands straight. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A tire is not black: use a dark gray shade with a hint of brown, as pure black looks like a hole at this scale. Spray the rim separately and deal with the transition to the tire with a mask or a patient brush. At the end add fine dust on the contact patch.
This is an accessory in resin, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
