CH-54A Tarhe landing gear for HEAVY load with weighted wheels - metal landing gear legs and resin 3D printed wheels with realistically sagging tires, for the ICM kit in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the helicopter but a detail set.
Responsibility details are not available.
A detail set from the manufacturer Reskit for the ICM kit in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the helicopter - you have to have the base model separately. The set is a combination of metal and 3D printing: the landing gear legs (the nose leg and both main legs) are metal, so they carry the weight of the finished model without sagging, while the wheels, brakes, forks and small covers are of finely printed resin.
A wheel from a kit is perfectly round. A real tire, however, sags under the weight of the machine and flattens where it touches the ground. A model on round wheels therefore looks as if it were levitating above the ground. Weighted wheels remove that impression.
What is crucial, though, is how much the wheel sags - and that depends on what the machine has slung underneath. Reskit therefore makes several versions of the landing gear: without a load, for a medium load, for a HEAVY load (this set) and an in-flight variant with the wheels hanging free. Choose the one that matches your scene. This set represents a fully loaded machine - typically with a slung Universal Military Pod or another heavy load - and therefore has the greatest sag of the tires of all the versions. If you put an empty machine on wheels for a heavy load, they will look absurdly sagged. Reskit makes all the other versions as well - choose according to what your model will carry.
The package holds the metal legs of the nose and of both main landing gears, weighted main and nose wheels with separately printed hubs, bosses and brakes, as well as forks, rods and small covers. The Universal Military Pod (the load) and any other load are NOT part of the set - the designation refers to it only as the situation that the sag of the wheels corresponds to. You have to obtain the load separately (for example from the corresponding box of the ICM kit).
The instructions point out that part of the work has to be done before you close up the fuselage - a hole 3 mm in diameter is drilled into one part of the kit. So read the instructions before you build the underside of the model. According to the instructions you bend the brake lines from wire 0.5 mm in diameter; that is not included in the package. You will not join resin with cement for polystyrene - use super glue, and glue the metal legs in rather with epoxy, which takes the weight of the model better. Cut the print supports off with a saw. Sand wet and do not breathe in the dust that arises, as it is harmful to health. Wash the parts with dish soap before painting because of print resin residue. Dust the flattened area of the tire lightly with pigment - the impression of weight will then be complete.
The detail set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, the load, the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
