Reskit CH-54A Tarhe, MEDIUM LOAD landing gear with weighted wheels 1:35 is a resin (3D-printed) detail set for the ICM kit. The wheels are flattened as they would be on a machine with a slung load (the manufacturer also names the M-121 bomb). It is not a kit; you have to have the ICM model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A 3D-printed resin detail set from Reskit in 1:35 scale, designed as a replacement for the landing gear of the CH-54A Tarhe plastic kit from ICM. It is the variant for a machine under a medium load, that is with a slung load, for which the manufacturer specifically mentions the M-121 bomb. The package is built around metal struts supplemented with 3D-printed resin parts and weighted wheels. Careful: it is not a kit of the helicopter but an accessory; the base ICM model has to be owned separately.
The tire of the real machine settles and flattens at the bottom under its weight; a perfectly round wheel out of the mold therefore makes the helicopter look as if it were hovering. That is what weighted wheels reproduce. The catch is that the depth of the flattening grows with the weight: a loaded Tarhe presses on the landing gear considerably more than an empty one. Reskit therefore makes several versions of the same landing gear for the same kit, and this one belongs to a machine that is carrying something. If you are building your model empty, you need the version without a load; for the heaviest loads there is a heavy load version, and for a model in flight an in flight variant. Choose according to what you will have slung under the machine, because another version will give the model nonsensically flattened wheels.
The CH-54A Tarhe, nicknamed the Skycrane, was an American heavy crane helicopter. Its characteristic frame with no cargo fuselage came about so that a load or a detachable cabin could be slung underneath. Besides carrying oversized loads and recovering downed machines in Vietnam, it is also associated with the use of exceptionally heavy bombs employed to clear a landing zone in the jungle quickly.
With resin, forget polystyrene cement; it does not attack the material chemically and the joint will not hold. Reach for cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or epoxy. Before painting, rinse the parts in lukewarm water with detergent; residues of print resin and release agent otherwise prevent the primer from adhering. Always sand wet, because resin dust is harmful to health. And weighted wheels only make sense when something really is hanging under the model.
A detail set, not a model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, without the base kit. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
