An injection-molded plastic kit of the French light tank in 1:35 scale from Tamiya. The kit allows the vehicle to be built in two forms - as the French H39 or as the German captured version Pz.Kpfw.38H 735(f) - thanks to separate parts (idler wheels, engine cover, antenna base, commander's cupola). The package holds a full figure of a French tanker and a half figure of a German one and decals for the French and the German variant. The finished model measures roughly 138 x 56 mm.
The Hotchkiss H39 was an improved version of the older H35: it received a stronger engine of around 120 horsepower and a longer 37 mm gun. It served in the French army in the opening campaigns of the Second World War. After the capitulation of France in 1940 the Germans captured large numbers of these tanks and used them under the designation Pz.Kpfw.38H 735(f) on a number of fronts, mainly for occupation and rear-area duties. It is precisely that dual history that makes the tank a rewarding subject.
Decide in advance which variant you are building - the parts and the painting differ and it is best not to mix them. Glue with liquid cement for plastic; with Tamiya everything fits precisely. The French machine wore a multicolor camouflage with dark stripes, the German capture usually a uniform gray - paint with an airbrush, then a gloss coat, the decals and a matte coat. For weathering, washes in the engraved lines and pigments, and dust and mud on the small running gear. The enclosed figures move the model toward a mini diorama.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
