The resin figure captures a man in tropical kit carrying a sheet-metal container for fuel. The casting is divided so that the position of the arms can be fine-tuned, and the container is part of the assembly. The scene looks natural at the moment of refueling an armored vehicle or a truck.
The Deutsches Afrikakorps was formed in February 1941, when the first German units arrived in North Africa in support of their Italian ally. Fighting in the desert made extraordinary demands on supply: water and fuel were carried hundreds of kilometers, and that is exactly why the kit of the corps became inseparably linked with the 20 liter jerrycan. It appeared in Germany in 1936, its three handles made it possible to carry two containers in one hand, and the Allies copied it so literally that they began calling it a jerrycan after its origin.
A tropical uniform quickly lost its olive cast in the sun and moved toward a light sand. It therefore pays to start with a darker base, to brighten the upper surfaces and to blend the transitions, and only then to add dust pigments to the boots and calves. Finish the skin with thin glazes so that it stays smooth.
Neither a base nor a vehicle is supplied with the figure.
