The equipment of the two-seat cockpit of the Japanese carrier-based dive bomber in 1:48 scale. The sheet carries the instrument panels of both positions, the side areas, the harnesses and small placards in color, ready for the parts of the kit mentioned in the name.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Aichi D3A was among the most successful Japanese carrier machines of the first half of the war in the Pacific. It took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor and in the raid into the Indian Ocean, and its crews showed remarkable accuracy. The D3A2 subversion of 1942 received a more powerful engine and a larger fuel load; it kept the characteristic spatted wheel of the fixed landing gear.
In the cockpit sat the pilot and behind him the radio operator and gunner, both under long glazing that runs almost halfway along the fuselage. The sheet therefore deals with the two workstations separately: the front panel with the engine instruments and the sight, the rear panel with the radio equipment, and between them the areas of the side walls and the floor. The harnesses are printed complete with their fittings and buckles, so there is no assembling of straps from metal foil.
Long glazing means the interior is also seen from above. It therefore pays to apply the elements with an eye to how the model will be built: with the canopy closed a flat seating is enough, while with it slid back it helps to press the edges down gently so that nothing stands proud. The surface must be dry, clean and free of grease from fingers, or the edges will lift in time.
A flat area painted in a single shade would look empty under such a large window. Printed instruments and belts lend the space a depth that you really will see on this type, wherever the model stands.
