The GMC CCKW was an American three-axle truck with all-wheel drive and a payload of two and a half tons, that is, the basic supply vehicle of the Allied armies of the Second World War. The designation 353 corresponds to the long-wheelbase version. The open cab version has a canvas roof instead of a fixed one and a folding windshield, so the cab is visible from above and the inside becomes a visible part of the model.
The set brings colored 3D-printed interior elements that have no adhesive layer of their own. A part is cut out, dipped for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slid off the paper into place, where it holds best on a gloss clear coat. The words on decal paper in the name therefore fit: the decal paper is the carrier of the print. All the same, do not use a decal softener or a decal setter, as they would attack the printed resin. The elements carry finished color printing and raised relief, so the instruments, plates and upholstery are done without brush painting. The set is prepared for the Tamiya kit in 1:35 scale.
Paint the plastic parts of the cab in the base shade, let them dry completely, remove dust and grease and cover them with a gloss clear coat such as Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22. Dip the cut-out element for fifteen seconds, slide it off the backing into place and settle it with tweezers or a damp brush. Blot the excess water away and press the element down with a soft stick or a cotton swab from the center toward the edges, so that the relief drops into the recesses. On busy places such as the instrument panel, work in sections and help yourself with a drop of super glue.
The set suits anyone building an open cab who does not want the inside merely sprayed flat. The package contains interior elements only, unless stated otherwise; the model, paints and glue are not included.
