Domestic wallpapers for a diorama, 1:35 scale

Printed sheets with domestic wallpaper motifs in 1:35 scale. They are used wherever the inside of a building is visible on a diorama: in a living room, in a shot-up ruin and in an opened-up corner of a structure.

What 1:35 scale means for an interior

At this scale a wall two and a half meters high comes out at roughly seven centimeters, so the wallpaper pattern is read quite close up and the viewer looks it over as carefully as he does the figures. Detail thereby gains weight: a straight vertical in the pattern, a cleanly cut corner and the matching of the strips decide whether the scene looks inhabited or like papered-over cardboard.

What the set contains

Sheets printed with wallpaper patterns in 1:35 scale. The manufacturer states the number of sheets, their size and the range of motifs.

How to work with the sheets

• Smooth the base first and rid it of dust; every grain shows through a thin sheet.
• Cut the pieces out with a sharp blade against a ruler and keep the pattern vertical as you do so.
• Match the individual strips to one another like real wallpaper; a break in the pattern is the most conspicuous mistake.
• Choose the glue according to the material of the sheets and test it on an offcut; excess moisture will make the surface ripple.
• Press a laid sheet down with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges and let it dry under a light weight.
• Suggest lifted corners of wallpaper by raising the sheet at a corner and showing the plaster underneath it; only then add the dirt with a dry brush.

Who it is for

For builders of military and civilian dioramas in 1:35 scale where the inside of a building is meant to be visible and where a bare wall would remain the weakest point of the scene.

The diorama, figures and building materials are not supplied, unless stated otherwise.
