This accessory set from the Italian brand Royal Model brings small items of kitchen life in 1:35 scale. Some of the objects are cast in resin, while the small tableware comes on a photo-etched metal fret. It is not a kit of a vehicle or a figure but a collection of objects that gives an interior scene a lived-in feel.
In European houses of the first half of the twentieth century, the kitchen was among the most crowded rooms of all. A stove, shelves along the wall, water cans, enameled and cast iron cookware and utensils hung on the wall made up the backdrop of everyday life. Objects like these tell a story in a scene: they suggest that somebody lived in the house and they give figures a comparison of size. They work in a parlor, in a pub and on the table of a field kitchen alike.
The resin castings are first freed of grease with lukewarm water and detergent, otherwise the paint will not hold. Bare metal calls for a primer from a spray can, and only then comes the shade. Laying down a base, working the individual colors up with a brush and bringing out the edges with a dry brush proves its worth. Enameled cookware gains from chipped spots with a dark core, while copper and brass gain from a matte patina instead. Try the arrangement dry, because in a closed interior only part of the area is visible in the end.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
