A modeling paint in the RAF Ocean Grey shade, the camouflage gray of the upper surfaces of British aircraft; the designation refers to the British shade standard under number 629.
Responsibility details are not available.
Ocean Grey is the British camouflage gray of upper surfaces. In the RAF day fighter scheme it replaced the earlier earth brown and, together with dark green, formed a pair that stayed with British fighter aircraft until the end of the Second World War. It is a medium dark gray with a cool cast; depending on the light and on the base it looks a little different on a model every time.
Most often on the upper surfaces of British fighter aircraft from the second half of the war, where it is complemented by dark green above and by a lighter gray on the undersurfaces. It also serves well as a base for grading large areas: a slightly lightened mix in the middle of the panels and the pure shade at their edges give the surface depth without your reaching for another color. The designation BS629 in the name refers to the British standard under which the shade is listed.
Use a thinner intended for this range; the manufacturer states the thinning ratio for spraying and for brushwork on the packaging, along with the recommended drying time. Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before use, so that pigment settled at the bottom is dispersed through the whole volume. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy one, because otherwise the fine detail of the surface will be lost.
The paint is intended for builders of British aircraft of the Second World War and for anyone who mixes their own shade schemes. Thinner, brushes, an airbrush and the model are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
