An injection-molded plastic kit of the American amphibious tracked fire support vehicle LVTH6A1 in 1:35 scale from the maker AFV Club. The model combines plastic sprues with higher-class accessories, photo-etched sheet, a turned metal gun barrel and a length of string for the cables; the decal sheet offers several marking options.
The LVTH6A1 was the fire support version of the amphibious armored personnel carrier LVTP5 of the US Marine Corps. Unlike the transport version it carried a rotating turret with a 105 mm howitzer (the letter H in the designation stands for howitzer) and served for direct fire support of the units being landed. The vehicle was fully amphibious, moving in the water by means of its tracks, and saw combat in the Vietnam War among other places.
First assemble and paint the running gear and the lower hull, and only then close up the tub, as the tracks and the wheels are harder to get at afterward. The large flat hull is a rewarding surface for shading with an airbrush; apply the base over a primer. On an amphibious vehicle it pays to mark the waterline and, above it, the traces of water, algae and corrosion. For the patina use washes that run into the detail and pigments for mud and dust deposits on the chassis.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
