This injection-molded plastic model in 1:35 scale captures the early production version of the German fully tracked Raupenschlepper Ost (RSO/01) tractor. The kit is typically richly broken up, holds photo-etched parts and several marking options. It is an honest project for more advanced modelers who will appreciate a high level of detail and faithful running gear.
The Raupenschlepper Ost came about as a response to the muddy and snowbound conditions of the Eastern Front, where ordinary wheeled vehicles failed. The fully tracked chassis gave the tractor excellent cross-country mobility and the vehicle was used to tow guns and to carry ammunition and supplies. Early production was marked by a closed sheet-metal cab; later a simplified variant was adopted.
Because of the number of parts, work through the instructions in sub-assemblies. Finish and paint the running gear and the tracks before final assembly, and the same goes for the interior of the cab. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). For a faithful look, a base coat, the camouflage shades with an airbrush and then mud and dust effects with washes and pigments suit well, bringing out the tracks and the underside of the vehicle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
