A brass replacement for the thick plastic parts over the tracks: 1:35 Tiger II Fenders (tamiya) belongs with a model of the German heavy tank called the King Tiger.
Responsibility details are not available.
A tank weighing almost seventy tons looks massive on a model in itself; what on the contrary takes away from its credibility are the thick plastic fenders over the tracks. The photo-etched replacement from Royal Model swaps them for sheet of a thickness correct to scale, which can moreover be adapted to a particular vehicle from period photographs. It is not a complete kit, only an improvement to one.
The last German production heavy tank combined sloped armor with an 88 mm anti-tank gun that could hit an opponent before it came under threat itself. It paid for that with weight: bridges would not carry it, the transmission suffered and its fuel consumption was, in the last year of the war, more of a theoretical quantity. The first examples carried the rounded turret of the intended Porsche design, the later ones the production turret with a flat front. It was committed in Normandy, in the Ardennes and in the east.
Long narrow parts ripple easily, so take them out of the fret one at a time and lay them straight onto a flat surface. Make a bend along the whole length in a bending tool in one go, not in stages. Attach the fenders only after the running gear is assembled, otherwise you will not reach it. Suggest damage sparingly: a completely bare area with no fender often looks exaggerated on a display model.
