Working with a torpedo: 1:35 U.S. sailors loading torpedo - WWII captures US Navy sailors at the loading. Resin figures in 1:35 from the Royal Model brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
A working scene in which US Navy sailors handle a torpedo. The Italian maker Royal Model created the group and cast it in resin; it suits ship models and a harbor scene in 1:35 alike. The figures arrive unpainted and unglued.
In the Second World War a torpedo was the heaviest weapon a smaller craft's crew had to handle by hand. It weighed over a ton, so it was moved with blocks and tackle, guide rails and above all a great many pairs of hands. Loading patrol boats and submarines therefore went on as carefully rehearsed teamwork, in which every man had his fixed place and his task.
The key to credibility is how the figures are turned toward one another. Try setting them out dry around a torpedo or a substitute for it first and adjust the angles of the arms so that the hands really rest on something; small gaps in the joints are filled with putty. The torpedo itself looks better with a smooth, slightly glossy surface than with matte paint, because its casing was polished metal.
The package consists of the resin castings alone, unpainted. A ship, a block and tackle and chemicals to buy are not added, unless stated otherwise.
