This set from FORE ART captures the American M192 anti-aircraft launcher for MIM-23 Hawk guided missiles. It is a striking piece of equipment that works in a diorama as the centerpiece of an air defense position.
The Hawk was an American medium-range anti-aircraft missile system introduced at the end of the 1950s. It served for decades with the American army and with a number of allies and went through several modernizations. A firing position consisted of a combination of radars, a control station and launchers: the towed M192 launcher carried three missiles and traversed and elevated into the required direction. It is exactly this arrangement that gives the subject the clear visual form modelers know from period photographs.
The frame of the launcher is symmetrical, so glue it on a flat surface and keep checking that the arms with the missiles hold the same angle. Paint the missiles separately and fit them only at the end, otherwise the white surfaces are hard to mask against the olive frame. A simple ground surface with rutted tracks and crates brings the position to life, because the equipment on its own looks static in a display case.
The package contains an unassembled model without paints; glue and tools do not belong with it.
