This detail set from Reskit contains four resin (3D printed) Mark 82 aircraft bombs with Mk.15 Snakeye retarding fins in the thermally protected version, in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for underwing stores with which you replace coarser plastic bombs or add armament to a model. The resin part faithfully captures the texture of the heat-protective layer and of the fins.
The Mark 82 is an American multipurpose aircraft bomb of low weight class from the Mk.80 family. The thermally protected version carries an ablative coating that reduces the risk of the bomb igniting prematurely in a fire, which mattered above all for operations on the decks of aircraft carriers. The Mk.15 Snakeye fins are retarding blades that allow a safe drop from low altitude.
First wash the parts to remove print resin residue, carefully separate the print supports and clean up the cut surfaces. Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Protect your airways when sanding resin. A fine wash and dry brushing will bring out the grainy texture of the protective coating.
The set contains resin parts only. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
