This accessory contains no gun barrels but turned metal masts, yards and other small turned parts for a model of the Austro-Hungarian battleship in 1:350 scale. It is not a kit. The set is cut for the Combrig kit; the manufacturer also makes a similar variant intended for a different kit, so check which version you are taking when ordering.
A mast is the most exposed part of a ship model. In plastic it is cast in two halves, so it has a lengthwise groove, once glued it tends to be slightly bent and when the rigging is tensioned it bends or cracks. A turned metal mast is perfectly straight, has a smooth taper from the foot to the tip and takes a tensioned thread without deforming. Metal yards hold a horizontal plane and do not give even after months in a display case. On a model of this era, where the rigging has a decisive share in the final impression, that is the difference between a finished piece and one that slowly twists.
Seat the foot of the mast in a drilled hole in the deck, not butt to butt: the metal part is heavier than a plastic one and a glued joint on a flat surface will not take the leverage. Drill the holes for the rigging in the yards beforehand, while the parts are still loose in your hand. Glue with gel grade cyanoacrylate or epoxy, which on a tall mast lets you set it truly vertical. Degrease the metal with alcohol and use a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will peel when the thread is tensioned. Tension the rigging of elastic thread only once the paint is dry and with a light touch: metal will take it, but the deck fittings will not.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a standalone kit. The ship model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
