Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of a modern American amphibious assault ship in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The hull number LHD-7 pins down which ship it is: the name Iwo Jima was also carried by an older helicopter assault ship designated LPH-2, but this is the newer and considerably larger unit of the Wasp class.
USS Iwo Jima LHD-7 is the seventh and last ship of the Wasp class. She entered service in 2001. These vessels combine two roles: helicopters and short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft operate from the full-length flight deck, while landing craft are carried in the floodable well deck at the stern. The ship can therefore put an amphibious Marine Corps group ashore with its vehicles and at the same time give it air support. In size she comes close to the medium aircraft carriers of other navies.
A flat flight deck is the crucial thing, so glue it on a flat surface and let it cure thoroughly. Apply the deck markings and lines onto a smooth, ideally lightly clear-coated base, otherwise the edges of the decals will show. Test the gray shades of the hull on a leftover piece of sprue beforehand; modern American vessels tend to wear a uniform finish that easily becomes dull. Gently lightening the surfaces and letting a dark tone flow into the lines will give the model depth. Leave the radars and aerials until last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
