The de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth is a British trainer biplane on which whole generations of pilots learned to fly. Pupil and instructor sit in tandem, one behind the other, in open cockpits, the landing gear is fixed and the upper wing is moved forward and swept back so that it is possible to bail out of the front cockpit in an emergency. The powerplant is an air-cooled inverted inline four-cylinder engine, which gives the machine a slim nose with the exhausts led along the fuselage. After their service ended, Tiger Moths spread widely into civilian hands and are still flying today.
It is a plastic kit in 1:48 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, the parts are on sprues and the package holds a decal sheet and instructions with painting diagrams. The particular marking options are given in the instructions.
The open cockpits can be seen right through on the finished model, so give them time before you glue the fuselage together. Glue the struts between the wings one at a time and keep checking that the upper wing is parallel with the lower one and has no twist; everything can still be lined up before the cement sets. The fabric surfaces carry a fine relief of ribs, so apply the paint in thin coats. Add the rigging of stretched thread at the very end.
The set suits a builder of classic aircraft and a collector of British aircraft in 1:48 scale. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
