The McDonnell F-101 Voodoo is an American twin-engine supersonic aircraft of the 1950s with jet engines, a slender fuselage and a high-set horizontal tail. The A and C versions were single-seaters and served in the attack role; their cockpit is fairly cramped and a good part of it is visible under the open canopy.
The set brings color cockpit interior parts made as three-dimensional decals. They are not flat prints: the instrument panel, the side consoles and the other parts have real relief, so the dials, levers and labels stand out above the surface once applied and do not have to be painted or picked out with a drybrush. The parts are shaped for the F-101 kits in 1:48 scale by Zimi Model and KittyHawk.
The interior is finished before the fuselage is glued together, so plan the parts in right at the start of the build. It is a good idea to paint the surfaces underneath in the base cockpit shade and, above all, to degrease them perfectly so that the part beds down and holds. Sanding the molded instrument relief on the plastic flat is recommended, otherwise the part would not sit on its whole area. The exact application procedure is given in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer, so follow them. Once the interior is finished, try closing the canopy dry and check that nothing is in the way. Check in the instructions whether the parts are self-adhesive as well; the way they are applied differs from range to range and the set does not state it in its designation.
The set is intended for modelers who want a convincing interior without painting tiny instruments and without bending metal parts. The work is quick and a less experienced builder will manage it well. The package contains only the sheet with the interior parts. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
