An injection-molded plastic kit of the supersonic F-104J Starfighter fighter in the form used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF), in 1:48 scale from Kinetic. It is a modern tooling from a higher modeling range with crisp detail; the kit contains photo-etched parts (among them the seat belts), a choice of ejection seats and a suggested radar in the nose.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a supersonic fighter and interceptor recognizable by its extremely slender fuselage and its short, thin wings with sharp leading edges - it was nicknamed the missile with a man in it. The Japanese F-104J version was built under license by Mitsubishi and the JASDF operated a fairly large number of them as interceptors; many wore a striking natural metal finish.
Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement, mask the cockpit glazing and bend the photo-etched seat belts over a sharp edge. For a natural metal finish a perfectly smooth base is essential - fill and sand the seams carefully, apply a gloss black or gray base coat and only then the metallic shades (best at the end, because they are hard to mask). Pick out the panel lines with only a fine wash, so that the metal does not go gray.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
