Photo-etched struts for models of the Boeing F4B-3 and F4B-4 in 1:48 scale from Clear Prop Models. The metal parts replace the softer plastic struts from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boeing F4B was a single-seat biplane fighter aircraft of the US Navy and Marine Corps from the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. The F4B-3 and F4B-4 versions belonged to the later production batches of this type. As with every biplane, the system of flying surfaces is held together by the struts, which on a model are at once the most fragile and the most visually conspicuous place in the build.
Photo-etched metal struts prepared for 1:48 scale. Metal holds its shape considerably better than plastic, the parts are thin, straight and have a clean outline with no mold parting line and no flash. The model thus gets struts that do not bend under the weight of the upper wing and do not twist even after years on the shelf.
Separate the part from the fret with a sharp blade on a cutting surface, not by twisting. Sand the remains of the tab down with fine abrasive paper or a file. Degrease the photo-etched part before gluing and coat it with primer, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth metal. It is bonded with super glue or with two-part epoxy, which gives more time for alignment. It is advisable to support the upper wing before the glue sets and to check the system of struts against itself, so that the wings are parallel and at the same height above the fuselage.
For the modeler who is building the F4B biplane in 1:48 scale and wants the build to be solid and accurate. Working with photo-etched parts calls for tweezers, a sharp blade and a calm hand. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
